PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
This forward-thinking course, led by fashion design industry expert Reagen Evans, explores cutting-edge techniques in 3D cutting and creative draping to equip participants with the skills to shape the future of fashion. The course emphasizes a hands-on approach, empowering participants to translate design concepts into innovative and dynamic garment forms.
COURSE HIGHLIGHTS:
During this course participants will explore the fundamental elements of advanced creative draping. Translating fabric into professionally executed garment shells through manipulation on the form, annotation and translation to flat patterns, appropriate textile and structure preparation and concept building. These practical lessons aim to equip participants with the necessary skills to create full looks on the stand and develop them into collections by pushing the boundaries of traditional methods and discovering new techniques and practises to aide the design process.
COURSE CONTENT:
-
Course Introduction: Overview of draping for design and creation, pattern translation, and construction techniques. Demonstration of design on the stand with texture and depth.
-
Jacket Draping: Key design considerations (collars, sleeves, style elevation). Emphasis on interior design. Draping process from shoulder initiation, fabric manipulation, and 360-degree cohesion. Annotation process and importance of detailed labeling.
-
Annotation Conversion: Translating drapes to flat patterns, addressing shaping and fit. Creating a master draft with annotations, determining construction methods, and pre-planning seam allowances and stitch types.
-
Pattern and Toile Preparation: Creating patterns from the master draft, toiling for fit and design refinement, and demonstrating the iterative process of couture garment creation. Fabric choice for toiles and evaluation on the stand.
-
Jacket Creation: Practical draping session with multiple designs. Portfolio building through photography and developing individual design styles.
-
Dress/Gown Draping: Draping a structured or flowing gown, emphasizing design features, materials, and the 360-degree cohesive look. Annotation and labeling for draped areas.
-
Dress/Gown Creation: Practical draping session with multiple designs. Portfolio building and developing individual design styles.
-
Dress/Gown Pattern Conversion & Preparation: Condensed review of pattern conversion. Shortcuts and key techniques. Connecting pattern pieces for high-end construction with minimal seams.
-
Corset Construction: Draping internal/external corset shells, integrating cup shaping, and pattern cutting for boning channels and construction details.
-
Shoulder Pad Creation: Three methods: adapting traditional pads, steaming polyester wadding for custom shapes, and creating structured shoulders in sheer garments using boning and power mesh.
-
Texture Creation: Creating textured samples (pleats, gathers, tucks) for draping and design exploration. Highlighting versatility and interchangeability of samples.
